Now, these are the Berlin pictures I was most excited to get back.

It’s around this time of year that my love for Black & White photography is rekindled, as, in my mind, its aesthetics suit the cold weather better. B&W photography always strikes me as more timeless by its nature, so I was most keen to shoot Berlin, a city teeming with rich history, on this particular format.

While airport security appears to have blasted my film with an extra dose of radiation, it’s actually added to the stark contrast of some of the photos. The blacks are deeper, the whites more washed out, and the various shades of grey more defined. I’ve always been against editing my film photos, but even in this case, when they've technically been damaged, I’m really pleased with the results and feel no need to make ‘corrections’.

I intentionally neglected to mention in my previous blog that I was fortunate enough to visit Fotografiska, Berlin’s self-dubbed ‘Contemporary Museum of Photography, Art & Culture'. Here, I saw a brilliant exhibit dedicated to the late German photographer, Helga Paris, whose deceptively simple, people-focused photos I found to be very affecting. Her works, particularly those centred on everyday people, are some that I’d like to emulate in the future. But for the moment, whilst I’m limited with lens options, I’ll settle for general landscapes.

I’m eager to revisit Germany in the summer, perhaps Berlin again. For the type of pictures that I enjoy taking, the country has a lot to offer. Everything below was shot on Kodak Professional 400 TX 35mm:
