Berlin in Colour - November 25

Berlin has been on the travel bucket list for some time, but I’ve never had the excuse to take the trip. Germany, in general, has always had a huge appeal, but I actually know staggeringly little about its lively capital.
As it would happen, Wolf Alice, who dropped one of my favourite albums of this year, had Berlin lined up on their European tour, so, as with Lorde and Luxembourg, I optimistically decided to book ahead in the summer. As such, I found myself similarly cold and just as broke, but this time in Germany’s capital.
Berlin is a far sparser city than I expected it to be. While there are a few hot-spots that are busier than others – the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag, to name a couple – shops and bars are sort of littered around the districts, without any high concentration in any one place (unless, of course, I was looking in the wrong areas). Regardless, this sort of set-up encourages a lot of walking, which is always the best way to explore a new city, in my opinion.
I’ve stated it on this blog multiple times, but I hate the cold. As should have been expected, Berlin in November is quite chilly, and having come down with the flu pretty much on arrival, walking around for hours at a time wasn’t always the most pleasant. However, the somewhat dreary atmosphere did make for some enjoyably bleak photos, some of which I’ve added below.
I shot a roll of Kodak UltraMax 400 against my better nature, as Berlin is a city that I’d prefer to shoot in B&W. However, finding streaks of striking colour in achromatic settings is something I’ve always found fun, and is what I’ve tried to capture with some of the pictures here. My fascination with shooting the local metro system in various cities continues, and this time I fell in love with the striking yellow of the local U-Bahn, which often rises from the underground to fly through the cityscape.
