Charmouth Beach - April 25

One of my favourite aspects of living in Dorset is the coast.

Growing up in Sussex, I was used to Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, Brighton, and Worthing. Honestly, I hated these beaches. They were dirty, pebbly, and surrounded by corroding buildings that had seen better days quite some time ago. I resolved that I never wanted to live near the coast.

That all changed when I first came to Bournemouth, and in the seven years that I’ve lived here, I’ve developed an affection for the sea and coastal life that I never thought would grow. I now can’t picture a life away from the water.

The benefit of having friends who drive in Dorset is that I’m not just limited to Bournemouth beach, which is how I ended up spending an afternoon in Charmouth in early April.

As well as boasting some stunning cliffside views, with the picturesque Lyme Regis nestled in the background, Charmouth Beach is also the perfect place for kids to run riot. Relatively famous for its fossils, you can hand a kid a hammer and let them loose for hours as they chip away at rocks to their heart’s content.

Of course, there are a bunch of adults taking part as well, and while fossil hunting isn’t really my bag, it was nice to see everyone engaged in what is a rather quaint pastime.

Below are a handful of pictures I took whilst out in Charmouth, on a day when we were spoiled with clear skies, high temperatures, and a light breeze.

Everything was shot on a roll of Mr Negative 50D 35mm film, with an ISO of 50.
